Good for backing up your stuff - learn from my mistakes to make it last longer
I got another one of these at WarehouseStationery which had the best price on it when I cross checked (Thanks!). My previous Seagate 2TB HDD had suddenly failed due to user error after some 10 years of good use. The drive's contents and folder structure at that point were no longer recognised on any PC (with inspection tools marking the space as "RAW" but still used up). So I needed to recover the files before I reformatted it. I will share my user error experience in having caused this HDD failure as a warning and as advice for better preserving the longevity of your drive.

I had put our digitised film collection on these HDDs so the family can watch them on TV with an HD media player. Sometimes I can't safely remove the 2TB HDD since the little player machine gets into a stuck state. At this point, I pull out the HDD and I take it back to the PC, which tells me that since it wasn't safely removed the drive may have got corrupted and offers to "Scan for errors (Recommneded) or Repair" the drive. You should be clicking on the Recommended option. What it seems I shouldn't do is to choose the Repair option, because it means something else from what I thought: it's repairing the Windows folder structure information, not as I thought fixing files. But it can lead to corruption in itself if you choose Repair too often and when you don't need it. And I did it too often over the years. I therefore found free recovering software (called Recuva: choose to scan All Files in the Specific Location of the connected failed drive, Enable Deep Scan and leave it to run for some hours while you're working. Then press Switch to Advanced Mode which changes to Options also to be pressed > Actions tab > Restore Folder Structure. Press the Recover button and choose a new drive to recover files to, leave it running overnight or more and it will be done. If you feel there's still items missing, you can run Recuva all again after rightclicking on your failed drive > Quick Format, which doesn't delete anything but just marks everything as supposedly deleted. Or if you're really brave you could have done the Quick Format before running Recuva the first time, since can make files easier to recover for recovering software.)

With my new HDD containing all the old files, and the Quick Formatted old hard drive back to working, I can now put both to use. And will from now on, after non-safe removal of the drive, choose the Scan (Recommended) option over the Repair drive option unless it tells me that it needs Repair done. With any luck my HDD as well its contents will last a very very long time this way! Best of luck to you all with your HDD too.

It's reasonably compact, and at the time, value for money, in terms of space provided.
