The Big Lawn Company
“The key opportunity is providing a more sustainable business model for the future. Over the lockdown period we have been investigating how we could provide a more sustainable business model to help New Zealand work towards lower emissions.”
Who you are and what type of business do you own?
The Big Lawn Company is a family-run business that specialises in mowing large lawns, lifestyle blocks, commercial properties and schools. We cover most of Auckland from North Warkworth (Matakana, Omaha) to South Ardmore and Clevedon.
What was the first thing you did when you realised the Covid-19 pandemic was about to affect your business?
I worked on a strategy for post level 4 lockdown with regards to catch up mowing and working with customers on the best outcome to get their lawns back under control once we moved back to level 3, with the assumption that we would be able to begin mowing again.
What are you doing now that you weren’t doing a month ago?
Over the lockdown period we have been investigating how we could provide a more sustainable business model in the future to help New Zealand work towards lower emissions.
What challenges are you concerned about in the weeks and months ahead?
Keeping contractors safe and healthy and getting back to our normal fortnightly mowing schedule, which enables us to have our costumers’ lawns looking the best they can. That’s something we take pride in.
What opportunities do you see coming out of this situation?
The key opportunity is providing a more sustainable business model for the future. In a short amount of time we have received a lot of feedback and if we can action it then a lot of the community and business would support a more sustainable approach.
How can the community support your business?
If you need any mowing services please get in touch - if it’s not a service we normally provide, we have contractors and contacts we can refer you too.
Also if you are an individual or business which requires mowing services and sustainability (carbon zero or zero emissions) is a key factor in who provides the service, please get it touch as we are looking to provide such a service in late 2020 or 2021.
